ABOUT

Selma Rondon has been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine in NYC since 1985. She  studied acupuncture at The TriState Institute of Chinese Medicine. At TriState, Selma  was  fortunate to have studied Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine with the renowned  Chinese Herbalist Ted Kapchuck. During her studies, Selma earned a  Bachelors in  Chinese Literature to compensate for the lack of English translated reference material  available at the time.  In 1987, Selma & family spent 9 months living on the East coast city  of ZhuZhou teaching conversational English  and modern dance. In 1989, just after the  Tiananmen Square protest and massacre, Selma returned to Shanghai and completed a 9  month clinical skills apprenticeship  program taught in Chinese at the Shanghai Institute of  Traditional Chinese Medicine. Upon her return, Selma became part of the first group of  American practitioners to become Board Certified in Acupuncture as well as  Board  certification in Chinese Herbal Pharmacology. For the first 20 years of her herbal practice,  Selma maintained well over 250 raw Chinese herbs allowing her to customize  formulations to address each patient’s individual health concerns. Currently, Selma’s  Sweet Qi Apothecary offers over time tested 400 effective herbal formulas as well as  professional grade line of supplements from Designs for Health, Metagenics, Gaia Herbs  and others.

Prior to her interest in Chinese Medicine, Selma trained as a modern and ballet dancer.  She opened her first “Body Works’ exercise studio on State Street in Brooklyn Heights in  1979 where  taught ballet barre and modern dance classes as well as the Nickolaus  exercise technique,  an exercise technique originally developed by Duke University for the  prevention and treatment of  injuries. A Shiatsu massage session to treat her own  dance injury, led Selma to study at the Ohashi Shiatsu Institute; that education eventually  led to studying Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Selma has studied Neuro-Scalp acupuncture with Dr. Jason & Linda Hao as well as Dr.  Poney Chiang, Dr. Zhu as well as the Yamamoto style  Scalp Acupuncture.

Selma’s competence in treating pain, immune and neurological disorders, digestive health,  gynecology, allergies, skin conditions and a host of other chronic health diseases is vast  and supported by patient testimonials.

Selma’s initial consultation includes a complete review and assessment of your medical  history, tongue and pulse diagnosis, a treatment plan with dietary, nutritional and / or  herbal recommendation when indicated, followed by an acupuncture treatment.

Be it your first, tenth or decades after your first session, Selma’s pragmatic and extensive clinical experience ensures efficacious and satisfying results.
